12-hour fast

A couple of weeks ago I was involved in one of the coolest events, well…ever.  In an effort to get our students involved in the world we set up a fund raiser for Haiti.  We did about a month long “collect the copper” drive.  That means that each grade had their own bucket and every 1, 2, and 5 cent piece was positive towards their total and everything else was negative.  Most of the grades where in the negative but it was really fun.  We ended the whole campaign with our Spring Spiritual Emphasis Week where we had the UK director of IJM.  He spoke about the reality of human trafficking and what God says about all of it and what they can do.  It was really impactful that these students at their age are able to hear about these realities and that they can in fact change the world.  On that Friday we did a 12-hour fast from 8 AM t0 8 PM.  It was a normal school day so the students that were given juice during lunch and then again after school to keep our school nurse happy ;).  After school we did activities such as building a cardboard house, a couple different activities that showed the discrepancies between world population and wealth distribution.  I also lead a worship/prayer time for the victims of human trafficking and poverty.  It was so incredible to hear the kids pray and grab a hold of the truth that Jesus is a God of Justice and he wants them to be a part of bringing about His justice in the world.
